£16.50
Old-style 1994 Royal Mint brilliant uncirculated coin celebrating the 300th anniversary of the Bank of England, found in 1694. The obverse shows the definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf. The reverse of this coin - designed by Leslie Durbin - reflects the period in which the Bank of England was established. At the centre of the design, Britannia looks onto a 'bank of money'. This mirrors her appearance on the Bank's original corporate seal, complete with the crown and cypher of King William III and Queen Mary II above. The script used for 'Bank of England' is a familiar banknote script, and the edge inscription reads 'SIC VOS NON VOBIS' - the motto of William Paterson, one of the Bank of England's founders. This £2 boasts a BU finish, capturing the fine details that can be hard to discern on circulated coins. Sold in its original presentation packaging from The Royal Mint, this UK coin was one of a limited number issued and will make a great addition to your collection.
