The first coin in a new Royal Mint series focused on iconic urban skylines and architecture rendered in 1oz silver proof - one of just 2,000 issued! This City Views coin celebrates historic London with a design inspired by prolific seventeenth century graphic artist Wenceslaus Hollar. Hollar was born in the Kingdom of Bohemia and noted for his engravings and etchings including remarkable panoramic views of cities like Prague and London. His ‘Long View of London from Bankside’ is the design that inspired the reverse of this one ounce coin. It was produced in 1647 at the height of the English Civil War and provides an incredible record of London life in a turbulent period, before the Great Fire of 1666. It’s a huge work and the 2022 design - adapted for coinage by The Royal Mint’s talented design department - focusses in on the Tower of London, as seen from South of the River Thames. Tower Bridge would not be constructed until the late nineteenth century so instead the waters are filled with masted ships. At the time, the Tower was the home of the Mint so it’s an appropriate subject. The historic reverse is paired with Jody Clark’s portrait of Her Majesty the Queen to the obverse. This coin is composed of 31.21 grams of 999 fine silver. It has a diameter of 38.61 millimetres, a milled edge and a proof finish. Intended for collectors, proof coins are struck multiple times with hand-prepared dies for a superior level of detail and shine. You’ll receive your London City Views coin in its original presentation packaging with a numbered certificate of authenticity enclosed.
