On 15th February 1971, history was made when UK's coinage officially shifted from a 'centuries-old money' system of Pounds, Shillings and Pence (d), to a new decimal currency where the pound was divided into 100 (new) Pence (p). Fifty years on from Decimal Day, The Royal Mint celebrated this momentous moment in the history of British money with a range of commemorative Fifty Pence pieces. The reverse of these coins evokes the designs of pre-decimal coinage, showing parts of Shillings, Farthings, Threepence and more. It’s the work of Royal Mint designer Dominique Evans. Her Decimal Day design is paired with Jody Clarks portrait of Her Majesty the Queen. This 50p coin is finished to proof standard in 8.00 grams of .925 silver, offering a superior level of detail, achieved with specially prepared dies. Aside from its silver composition and fine finish, this coin maintains the same specifications as the Fifty Pence pieces you find in your change: a diameter of 27.30 millimetres and a thickness of 1.78 millimetres. Its presented in its original packaging from The Royal Mint which comprises of a capsule, presentation case and gift box. Also included: an information booklet and a numbered certificate of authenticity which confirms that this comes from a limited edition of 6,710. Ships free in the UK.
