2020 Tower of London The Infamous Prison £5 Crown Silver Proof

UK20IPSP 2020 Tower of London The Infamous Prison £5 Crown Silver Proof Boxed
New for 2020: four new designs in the popular Tower of London series: a collaboration between The Royal Mint and Historic Royal Palaces. The 2020 collection celebrates some of the various functions the ancient fortress has served down the centuries, including the Tower’s ‘infamous’ role as a prison. While royal and noble prisoners might be kept in relative comfort - deprived only of their liberty - unlucky prisoners were tortured. Timothy Noad's reverse for this proof coin is a subtle evocation of the Tower's chilling past. Its inspired by anonymous graffiti found in the Bell Tower which reads ‘BY TORTURE STRANGE MY TROUTH WAS TRIED YET OF MY LIBERTIE DENIED’. This is set against a Norman-style window: a design feature that unifies the coins in the 2020 Tower of London collection. Struck in 28.28 grams of .925 sterling silver, this piece has a face value of Five Pounds and measures 38.61 millimetres in diameter. It’s offered in its original case and capsule from The Royal Mint with its numbered certificate of authenticity enclosed. This Infamous Prison coin is from a limited edition of 1,510 pieces.
