Coming to the throne in 1837, Queen Victoria would reign over Great Britain for 64 years. This Five Pound silver proof coin from The Royal Mint, struck in 2019, celebrates 200 years since her birth. Interestingly, this collectible coin features a queen on both sides. The obverse shows Jody Clark’s effigy of the current Queen, Elizabeth II while the reverse features an interpretation of the ‘Young Head’ effigy that appeared on Victoria’s coinage, reimagined by coin designer John Bergdahl. This portrait is surrounded by Victorian-era innovations: a nod to the legacy of technological change left by her reign. This example is from a limited edition presentation of just 7,500 and is struck in 28.28 grams of 925 sterling silver. It’s offered in its original packaging with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
