2017 Innovation In Science Sir Isaac Newton Fifty Pence Piedfort Silver Proof Coin

2017 Sir Isaac Newton 50p Piedfort Silver Proof Boxed
from
£99.99
The story of Sir Isaac Newton gaining a flash of inspiration while sitting under a tree watching an apple fall is famous today, but it was the physicists realisation that the force that made the apple fall downwards was the same force responsible for planetary orbit that is most important. Newton's 'Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy' has been called the most influential book on physics ever. The scientist had spent over twenty years composing it, and his work presented a mathematical description of the universe which was revolutionary. In celebration of the 375th anniversary of Newton's birth and the 330th anniversary of the publication of Principia Mathematica, The Royal Mint released a series of coins, including this piedfort silver proof Fifty Pence. Artist and designer Aaron West took inspiration from Newton's revolutionary work for the reverse image which depicts elements of 'Proposition 11' in Book One. It features the sun at the centre of several orbiting planets. On the opposite side is Jody Clark's portrait of The Queen, the fifth official effigy of the monarch to be used on modern British currency. This 50p is struck in .925 sterling silver in proof standard, giving it a higher quality finish and greater definition than the coins in your change. One of 1,935 in this presentation, your double thickness Newton coin comes in the original packaging and display box from The Royal Mint with a numbered certificate of authenticity. It has the standard weight and diameter of 16.00 grams and 27.30 millimetres.
