£325.00
Five ounce silver proof coin with a face value of £10 / Ten Pounds. This remarkable piece was part of a Royal Mint collection issued in 2015 to mark the point at which Queen Elizabeth II became Britain’s longest reigning monarch, overtaking the record of her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria. Victoria reigned for 63 years and seven months while Her late Majesty reached her Platinum Jubilee in 2022, celebrating an unprecedented 70 years on the throne. This 5oz edition features two incredible designs. First, the obverse shows a special portrait of Elizabeth by James Butler MBE RA, designer of the Queen’s Great Seal of the Realm. Signed ‘JB’ it was only used on select commemorative coins issued in 2015. The reverse features all five definitive portraits of Elizabeth II used on her coins, from Mary Gillick’s youthful portrait, introduced in 1953, the year of her coronation, right through to Jody Clark’s fifth and final effigy, first seen in 2015. This moving design is the work of Stephen Taylor and includes the crowed ‘EIIR’ cypher we are so familiar with. It’s a fascinating tribute to British coinage history and an incredible royal milestone. This large, collectible piece has a diameter of 65.00 millimetres and is struck in 156.30 grams of .999 fine silver to The Royal Mint’s finest proof standard. It’s from a limited edition presentation of just 1,000 pieces and comes in its original presentation packaging which comprises a printed card sleeve and a black leather case. The original certificate of authenticity and an information booklet are enclosed.
