The Royal Mint issued the very first silver 100 Pound coin in January 2015 after the successful release of the 20 Pound coin in 2013. Big Ben features on the first edition of the 0.999 fine £100 coin and it proved popular with the public, selling out its issue limit of 50,000 in just 11 days. It's issued in a limited edition presentation pack, contains just over two troy ounces of silver and measures 40.00 millimetres in diameter. Unusually for a Royal Mint coin, two engravers collaborated in the design of the reverse. It shows an image of the Clock Tower of Westminster, which was officially renamed the Elizabeth Tower in 2012. Glyn Davies and Laura Clancy were both responsible for this attractive engraving of the Elizabeth Tower, which is commonly nicknamed as a whole as 'Big Ben', despite the nickname actually only referring to the bell in the Great Clock of Westminster. The obverse shows Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Queen Elizabeth, which is her fourth head type to appear on UK coins. Each coin is struck twice to a 'Brilliant Uncirculated' finish, which is the common standard for Royal Mint commemorative coins. A fantastic collectable is suitable for any British coin enthusiast.
