This 156.30 gram .999 fine silver coin was struck in 2013 to celebrate 60 years since Her Majesty the Queen’s coronation. She came to the throne in February 1952 on the death of her father, King George VI, at the age of just 25. Her coronation took place the following June at Westminster Abbey. In the ancient ceremony, televised to millions around the world, she was crowned queen of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, and Ceylon. Sixty years on, Elizabeth II had passed her Diamond Jubilee (2012) and could look back on a remarkable six decades on the throne. This Royal Mint coin celebrates the occasion with a design featuring the elaborate gothic interior architecture of Westminster Abbey and two important symbols of state: the orb and sceptre. Key parts of the British crown jewels, these implements represent the spiritual and temporal power of the monarch and have played an important role in royal coronations for centuries. The design is the work of Jonathan Olliffe and is paired with Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of Elizabeth II which appears on the obverse. This £10 coin is one of just 1,453 released in this limited edition presentation and comes in its original black leather case from The Royal Mint with an information booklet and a certificate of authenticity enclosed.
