2007 Act Of Union 300th Anniversary Two Pound Piedfort Silver Proof Coin

UKAOUPF 2007 Act Of Union 300th Anniversary Two Pound Piedfort Silver Proof Coin Boxed
The Act of Union received assent from Scotland in January 1707. It saw the culmination of ties between the two countries, with James VI of Scotland becoming James I of England in 1603 and the creation of a Union flag representing both nations. England and Scotland were united under one Parliament following the Act, although Scotland retained a level of independence in the Law, education system, and Church. To celebrate three hundred years of Union, The Royal Mint released a series of commemorative coins, including this Piedfort silver proof Two Pound, with fine gold plating around the rim. The design, by Yvonne Holton features the rose of England and the thistle of Scotland as two pieces of a jigsaw. The other two quarters feature a portcullis which represents Parliament. The obverse of the coin displays Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of The Queen, the fourth official effigy used by The Royal Mint on British coinage. Around the edge is the inscription ‘UNITED INTO ONE KINGDOM’. In a double thickness, this Piedfort £2 weighs 24.00 grams and has a standard diameter of 28.40 millimetres. It comes in its original packaging with a certificate of authenticity. It is one of just 4,000 in this presentation.
