This one-year-only reverse by Philip Nathan shows Britannia in profile, helmet pushed back and overlaid with waves, with vertical inscriptions reading 'BRITANNIA' to the left and 'TENTH OUNCE FINE SILVER 2003' to the right.
The obverse shows Ian Rank-Broadley's coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, with the surrounding inscription 'ELIZABETH · II · D · G REG · FID · DEF ·' and the denomination '20 · PENCE' below.
This 2003 Twenty Pence coin is struck in 3.24 grams of .958 Britannia silver, and offers one-tenth of a troy ounce of pure silver. The proof finish creates a sharp contrast between frosted devices and mirrored fields.
Though 2,500 of these 1/10oz coins were authorised for release by The Royal Mint but just 1,179 coins were actually issued in this individual presentation. Tenth-ounce coins are also included in 2003 silver Britannia sets.
This pre-owned coin comes complete in its original packaging from The Royal Mint, which consists of a black clamshell case, a capsule and a certificate of authenticity that doubles as an information booklet.
