1997 First Year Bimetallic £2 Silver Proof

1997 First Year Bimetallic £2 Silver Proof Boxed
In 1997 The Royal Mint released a new Two Pound coin into circulation: the first bi-metallic coin struck for general use in the United Kingdom for hundreds of years. This silver proof £2 was struck to commemorate the occasion and features the same design as the regular cupronickel\nickel-brass coins, Bruce Rushin’s technology inspired motif. It symbolises the history of technological achievement from the Iron Age to the Internet Age. The edge inscription - ‘STANDING ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS’ - is also the same as circulating counterparts. With Raphael Maklouf’s portrait of Elizabeth II on the obverse, this coin is from a limited issue of 40,000 and is struck in 12.00 grams of .925 sterling silver. You’ll receive your example in its original packaging from The Royal Mint with a certificate of authenticity.
