The reverse of the 1895 Threepence features the iconic crowned '3' motif, originally created by Jean Baptiste Merlen, a design used throughout Victoria's long reign. On the obverse is Sir Thomas Brock's distinguished third portrait of the Queen, known as the Old Head or Veiled Head effigy.
