The fifth addition to The Royal Mint's British Monarch's coin collection celebrates England's most infamous monarch: King Henry VIII. This 2023 edition is the silver-proof one-ounce coin, from a limited edition presentation of 1,350. One of England's best-known and most controversial Kings, Henry VIII is remembered for his six marriages and his excommunication from the Roman Catholic Church, sparking the English Reformation. Although commonly believed to have divorced two of his wives, he actually had those marriages annulled. He's also known as 'the father of the Royal Navy', as England's fleet became a serious player on the seas during his reign. On the reverse of this silver one ounce collectable, the Royal Mint's design team have adapted the obverse from the silver 'Testoon' - a coin issued in the latter years of Henry VIII's reign, which shows him crowned facing forward. These coins were the equivalent of a Shilling, having the same value at 12 pence. The 16th century design on the reverse is complemented by Martin Jennings' engraving of King Charles III. Specifications of this UK coin are a weight of 31.21 grams, a diameter of 38.61 millimetres and a 999 fine silver alloy. The proof finish gives the coin a far superior appearance than any coin found in your change; it's advised you leave it in its protective capsule to preserve its highly polished finish. Each Henry VIII one ounce silver coin comes housed in a coin capsule inside the original limited edition presentation box with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
