2023 British Monarchs King Charles I Two Ounce Silver Proof Coin

UK23C1S2 2023 British Monarchs King Charles I Two Ounce Silver Proof Coin Boxed
Limited edition of just 600! This two ounce silver proof Charles I coin is the sixth addition to the Royal Mint's British Monarchs series. In this exciting new series, the historical Kings and Queens of the British Isles are brought to life again, with the fascinating coinage issued during their reigns restruck for modern-day coinage. Starting in 2022, each new release features a historic royal portrait, carefully remastered by The Royal Mint's design team. Their 3D modelling process preserves the imperfections of rare old coins and places them alongside a modern effigy of either the late Queen Elizabeth II or the new King, Charles III. Stuart King Charles I is the subject in this collector's coin, acceding to the throne in 1625. One of the most controversial monarchs in British history, his autocratic rule is best remembered for sparking civil war in the three kingdoms of England, Scotland and Ireland, which ultimately led to his overthrow and his execution at the hands of the victorious Parliamentary forces. The reverse design chosen for this modern interpretation is by Nicholas Briot's and shows Charles I crowned on horseback, the only equestrian portrait to feature in the series. This design would have appeared on Crowns and Halfcrowns struck between 1625 and 1649 and it has been beautifully remastered for this proof collectable. On the obverse, Martin Jennings' new effigy of King Charles III can be seen. This £5 Royal Mint coin is struck in 62.42 grams of 999 silver and has a diameter of 40.00 millimetres. As standard, it comes in its original presentation packaging with a numbered certificate of authenticity enclosed. Included is a protective capsule, and it's advised you leave your coin encased in order to preserve its fine proof finish.
