This pre-owned 2016 FIFA World Cup silver proof coin celebrates the 50th anniversary of England's triumph at the 1966 Football World Cup. Issued under the authority of the States of Alderney, it's legal tender only on the island of Alderney and has a face value of Five Alderney Pounds. England had only begun to enter the FIFA World Cup in 1950, after boycotting the first three tournaments with the other Home Nations. They finally won the cup on their fifth attempt on home soil, defeating arch-rivals West Germany 4-2 in the final at Wembley. The iconic photograph of captain Bobby Moore lifting the Jules Rimet trophy above his head whilst hoisted by his teammates remains an inspiration to English football fans today, with the hope one day another Englishman will lift the World Cup again. On this collectable coin's reverse, Emma Noble has placed the Jules Rimet cup on top of the English Football team's badge, set inside a football styled as the world. Complementing this, the obverse shows the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, which is the fourth official effigy of the monarch. Specifications are a diameter of 38.61 millimetres and a total weight of 28.28 grams. This pre-owned Alderney coin is composed of 0.925 fine sterling silver, which gives the coin a fine silver weight of 0.8410 troy ounces. You'll receive the certificate of authenticity and the original presentation box as standard, with a mintage of just 2,454 coins. Free UK delivery is included in our price.
