1986 UK Annual Set Proof Standard

1986 UK Annual Set Proof Standard Coin
Do you remember 1986? It was the year that the first UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the UK were designated, including the Giant’s Causeway and Stonehenge. Remember 1986 with The Royal Mint’s eight coin annual set, featuring UK circulating coinage struck to proof standard. The designs represent all of the home nations, from the badge of the Prince of Wales on the Two Pence and English Lion on the Ten Pence, to the One Pound representing Northern Ireland, and the Scottish thistle on the Five Pence. This set features a special commemorative Two Pound which celebrates the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, with a St Andrews Cross and thistle design. Each features Raphael Maklouf’s portrait of The Queen on the obverse. These coins are struck in the same alloy as the coins in your change, including nickel-brass and cupro-nickel, but are struck to the higher proof standard. Proof coins have a finer finish, achieved with multiple strikes of hand finished dies. This annual includes a 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and special commemorative £2 displayed together inside a protective plastic sleeve which allows you to view both sides of the coins without incurring damage. They are presented in a standard blue leatherette case. You may notice some toning on the coins which is typical for these sets several decades on from when they were issued.
