Highly collectable 1969 gold one ounce proof Krugerrand, from a mintage of 10,000 coins. Krugerrands first appeared in 1967 as an investment vehicle for acquiring gold bullion at low premiums in troy ounce increments. Their distinctive appearance and durability means that they're a convenient and trusted way to invest in gold. Although primarily aimed at investors, proof editions of the Krugerrand have been released annually alongside the bullion versions. Typically the proof coins have much lower mintage figures, which makes them far more appealing to coin collectors. The 1oz proof Kruger is struck multiple times using hand-polished dies to give an incredibly sharp finish, full of detail and vastly superior to the bullion equivalent. Like all gold Krugerrands, the obverse of this 1969 edition shows the head and shoulders portrait of Afrikaner statesman Paul Kruger by German engraver Otto Schultz. Kruger lends his name to these coins, combined with the Rand, the South African currency. The text in Afrikaans and English around the portrait reads 'SUID-AFRIKA ยท SOUTH AFRICA'. The reverse by Coert Steynberg features the instantly recognisable image of a 'pronking' springbok with the date split on either side. The weight and composition are listed below: 'FYNGOLD 1OZ FINE GOLD'. This pre-owned 916.7 fine gold coin weighs 33.93 grams and has a diameter of 32.77 millimetres, with an actual gold content of precisely one troy ounce. This proof coin is offered without any additional official packaging or certificates. It's advised you keep the coin in the protective sleeve provided to preserve its pristine proof finish. An amazing opportunity to acquire a rare South African coin.
