2011 Tennis 50p, one of 1,454,000. This UK coin was circulated in 2011 by The Royal Mint in the build-up to the 2012 London Olympics. The design for this coin was created by Tracy Baines, who submitted three other designs to the public competition the Royal Mint hosted to choose designs for the Olympic commemorative set. Baines chose Tennis as her subject as it is her mother's favourite sport, and Baines grew up watching it. The United States took topped the medal table in the 2012 Summer Olympics for tennis. Team GB's Andy Murray took gold in the Men's singles. Baines's design is on the reverse of the coin; a close-up view of a textured tennis ball just making it over a very detailed tennis net. Above is the 2012 Summer Olympics logo, and below are the words '50 PENCE'. On the obverse is Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Her Majesty the Queen. The 2011 Tennis 50ps are minted in cupronickel alloy to standard Fifty Pence piece specifications (weight: 8.00 grams, diameter: 27.30 millimetres). 1,454,000 of these coins entered circulation. The photograph for this listing is a stock image, and coin you will receive will be in comparable condition and as it was circulated will be much like the coins you find in your change.
