2011 Olympic Shooting Fifty Pence piece released prior to the 2012 Summer Olympics. The design for this UK coin was chosen from a public competition run by The Royal Mint, who chose twenty designs overall. Pravin Dewdhory submitted the chosen shooting design. His inspiration for the design came from the way a clay pigeon looks when it has been shot and used the 2012 Olympic Logo geometric shapes as the segments from the explosion to link the design to the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. South Korea and the USA topped the medal charts at the 2012 games with three gold medals each. The reverse of the 2012 Olympic Shooting 50p displays Dewdhory's design of the top half of a shooting athlete shooting a shotgun from left to right, with the exploding Olympic logo on the right of the coin around the end of the barrel. Above is the 2012 Summer Olympics' Logo and below are the worlds '50 PENCE'. The obverse displays Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Her Majesty the Queen. The 2011 Shooting 50ps are struck in cupronickel alloy to standard Fifty Pence piece specifications (weight: 8.00 grams, diameter: 27.30 millimetres). 1,656,500 of these coins entered circulation. The photograph for this listing is a stock image, and coin you will receive will be in comparable condition and as it was circulated will be much like the coins you find in your change.
