2011 Modern Pentathlon 50p. This UK coin is part of the commemorative collection minted and circulated by The Royal Mint to celebrate the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. To choose the designs for this collection, The Royal Mint hosted a competition for the public to submit their ideas, and out of 30,000 submissions twenty-nine were submitted. The 2011 Modern Pentathlon Fifty Pence piece design was submitted by Daniel Brittain. On the reverse of this coin is Brittain's design of five figures all representing the different sports of the Modern Pentathlon, combined by an explosive shape; a swimmer is at the bottom middle mid stroke, a fencer is on the far left in a defensive pose, an athlete running facing right is on the middle right, a shooter aiming a pistol rightwards is on the second left, and a prancing horse is on the far left. Above the figures is the 2012 Summer Olympics' Logo and below are the worlds '50 PENCE'. On the obverse is Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Her Majesty the Queen. The 2011 Modern Pentathlon 50ps are struck in cupronickel alloy to standard Fifty Pence piece specifications (weight: 8.00 grams, diameter: 27.30 millimetres). 1,689,500 of these coins entered circulation. Please note that the photograph on this page is a stock image. The coin you will receive is one that entered circulation and therefore will look like the coins that you find in your change, comparable condition to the coin in the photo.
