2011 London Olympics Gymnastics Circulated Fifty Pence Coin

2011 Olympic Gymnastics 50p Reverse
from
£4.00
2011 Olympic Gymnastics Fifty Pence piece. This UK coin is one of twenty-nine circulated in 2011 by The Royal Mint to commemorate of the 2012 Summer Olympics hosted in London. Each of the twenty-nine coins has a unique Olympics related design, chosen from a pool of 30,000 submissions by the public. The gymnastics design was submitted by Jonathan Olliffe who also submitted the chosen design for the 2011 Aquatics 50p and depicts a rhythmic gymnast in mid leap. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, China took the most gold medals from the gymnastic events overall, but Russia dominated the rhythmic gymnastics. The reverse of the Gymnastics 50p depicts Olliffe's design of a leaping rhythmic gymnast twirling a ribbon, above is the 2012 Olympic Logo which the ribbon passes behind, and at the bottom of the coin the words '50 Pence'. On the obverse is Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Her Majesty the Queen. The 2011 Gymnastic 50ps are struck in cupronickel alloy to standard Fifty Pence piece specifications (weight: 8.00 grams, diameter: 27.30 millimetres). 1,720,813 of these coins entered circulation. Please note that the photograph on this page is a stock image. The coin you will receive is one that entered circulation and therefore will look like the coins that you find in your change, comparable condition to the coin in the photo.
