2011 Goalball design Fifty Pence piece. This 50p is one of twenty-nine that were issued by The Royal Mint to celebrate the 2012 Summer Olympic and Paralympic events hosted in London. The designs for these coins were submitted by the public, and the goalball design was submitted by Jonathan Wren. As part of his design, Wren wanted to capture the high speed that the game was played at and included a bell in the design to indicate that the sport relied on sound. On the reverse of the 2011 Goalball 50p is Wren's goalball design, consisting of a goalball athlete throwing a ball, with lines coming off the ball to indicate speed, and a bell on the ball. Above them is the 2012 Paralympics' Logo and at the bottom of the coin are the wolds '50 PENCE'. On the obverse is Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Her Majesty the Queen. The 2011 Goalball 50ps are struck in cupronickel alloy to standard Fifty Pence piece specifications (weight: 8.00 grams, diameter: 27.30 millimetres). 1,651,500 of these coins entered circulation. Please note that the photograph on this page is a stock image. The coin you will receive is one that entered circulation and therefore will look like the coins that you find in your change, comparable condition to the coin in the photo.
