Circulated canoeing 50 pence Olympic coin. Part of a collection celebrating the London Olympic Games in 2012, this Fifty Pence piece was released as one of 29 from the Royal Mint. All 29 designs were selected from submissions by the public. Timothy Lees, a stone carver and a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors, won a place with his design of a canoe. The coin shows a canoeing athlete on a canoe slalom course, a white rapids course which an athlete must navigate whilst also going through gates. Team GB achieved two gold medals across the Canoe Slalom and Sprint categories. The reverse of this 50p displays Timothy Lees' design; a canoeing athlete on a slalom course, with slalom gates behind them, water and waves below and besides them, the 2012 Summer Olympics' Logo above and '50 PENCE' below. Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Her Majesty the Queen is on the obverse. The 2011 canoeing 50ps are struck in cupronickel alloy to standard Fifty Pence piece specifications (weight: 8.00 grams, diameter: 27.30 millimetres). 2,166,500 of these coins entered circulation.  Please note that the photograph on this page is a stock image. The coin that would be received on purchase is one that entered circulation and therefore will look like the coins that you find in your change. Our price includes free UK shipping.
