Circulated 2011 Olympic Boxing 50p. This UK coin was released as part of the Royal Mint's Olympic 50p collection celebrating the 2012 Summer Olympics hosted in London. The Royal Mint ran a national competition which saw twenty nine winners from direct entries and another Blue Peter competition for Children. Shane Abery, a delivery driver from Reading, entered in order to encourage his children to enter the Blue Peter competition. He chose boxing as his subject due to personal interest and bought a pair of boxing gloves in order to ensure the details were correct in his design. Out of 30,000 entries, Abery's boxing glove 50p was one of the winners that entered circulation. At the 2012 Olympics, Team GB won the most boxing gold medals. On the reverse of this coin is Abery's design: two boxing gloves in fine detail, with boxing ring posts and rope in the background, the 2012 Summer Olympics' Logo above and '50 PENCE' below. Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Her Majesty the Queen is shown on the obverse. The 2011 Boxing 50ps are struck in cupronickel alloy to standard Fifty Pence piece specifications (weight: 8.00 grams, diameter: 27.30 millimetres). 2,148,500 of these coins entered circulation. Please note that the photograph on this page is a stock image. The coin that would be received on purchase is one that entered circulation and therefore will look similar to the coins that you find in your change. Our price includes free UK shipping.
