2011 circulated Olympic archery 50p, part of The Royal Mint's collection for the 2012 London Summer Olympics. This UK Coin is one of 29 designs in the collection, selected from 30,000 public entries. Piotr Powaga was the designer of the archery coin. Powaga wanted to do something other than a silhouette; he wanted to capture a small action that represented the whole sport. He settled on a focused aspect – the hand drawing back the bow string – and had his wife model the action that he captured in his design. At the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, South Korea topped the archery medal table with three golds. On the reverse of the 2011 archery 50p is Powaga's design; a focus on a hand in action pulling back the string of a bow with an arrow, the 2012 Summer Olympics logo above and '50 PENCE' below. As with all coins in the Olympic 50p collection, the obverse shows Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Her Majesty the Queen. These archery 50ps are struck in cupronickel alloy to standard Fifty Pence piece specifications (weight: 8.00 grams, diameter: 27.30 millimetres). 3,345,500 of these coins entered circulation.  Please note that the photograph on this page is a stock image. The coin that would be received on purchase is one that entered circulation and therefore will look similar to the coins that you find in your change, comparable condition to the coin in the photo. Our price includes free UK shipping.
