2009 Kew Gardens Fifty Pence

2009 Kew Gardens 50p
from
£195.00
A highly sought after ‘Kew Gardens’ Fifty Pence piece, dated 2009. The obverse of this scarce 50p coin features the fourth portrait of Her Majesty the Queen to appear on her coinage, with small initials below identifying the engraver as Ian Rank-Broadway. The reverse shows the iconic Great Pagoda, located at the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew. The tower is here encircled with a vine and the word 'Kew' appears at the base. This design by the engraver Christopher Le Brun celebrates the 250th anniversary of the Botanical Gardens' foundation, marked by the dates (1759 and 2009 that appear either side of the pagoda. With a notably low mintage of only 210,000, this is one of the key modern 50p coins sought by collectors.
