1989 UK Scottish Brilliant Uncirculated Annual 7 Coin Set

Product Gallery

This Nickel-Brass, Cupro-Nickel and Bronze Uncirculated coin set, was released to commemorate the coins of 1989 from The Royal Mint. This 1989 collection is of particular significance due to the introduction of the New One-Pound Coin paying tribute to Scotland as is tradition, bearing a thistle encircled by a Royal Diadem, while also acknowledging the UK as an entity. The one-pound coin would eventually replace the popularity of the pound note over several decades. This 7-piece annual set, celebrates 1989 and hosts the new 3rd Portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf, FRSA.
The year 1989
1989 saw the fall of the Berlin Wall, which had divided East and West Germany, and marked the collapse of the Iron Curtain and communist Europe. It was also a memorable year for television with; BBC's Eastenders running a major storyline on the shooting of 'Dirty Den' and ITV broadcast the first episode of new soap, Home and Away. 1989 also witnessed; Princess Diana perform the opening ceremony for the Landmark Aids Centre in London shaking hands with AIDS victims, and Nintendo launching its first Gameboy. This Royal Mint 1989 collection marks an extraordinary year for coinage and current affairs, and now you can purchase a piece of this historical year.
BU Coins
Struck at a higher standard than circulating or bullions coins and handled carefully to avoid any damage, Brilliant Uncirculated coins, although not as high value as Proof coins, are ideal for an entry-level collector or to mark an important milestone. This 1989 annual set features all 7 coins, which were in circulation during the course of a very special year.
