Collectable 1933 silver 'Wreath' Crown from the reign of King George V (S 4036, ESC 373, Bull 3644). So-called 'Wreath' or 'Christmas Crowns' were struck by the Royal Mint between 1927 and 1936 in very limited numbers and reportedly distributed by the Bank of England as festive presents to favoured clients. The obverse of this coin shows the left-facing bare-head portrait of George V by Bertram Mackennal with the words 'GEORGIVS V DEI GRA: BRITT: OMN: REX' around. The reverse shows the distinctive shamrock wreath design, interwoven with thistles and roses, the crown and its centre showing the date (1933) above. The words 'CROWN' appear below with 'FID · · DEF · · IND · · IMP' above. This is the work of George Kruger Gray. 7,132 Crowns of this type were struck in 50% silver. This example has been graded Very Fine (VF) or better by our expert numismatists.
