High-grade Edwardian silver Halfcrown, dated 1904. Obverse: right-facing portrait of King Edward VII by British sculptor and medallist George William de Saulles. Bare head with beard, artist's initials below ('De S ·'). Legend: 'EDWARDVS VII DEI GRA: BRITT: OMN: REX'. Edge: milled. Reverse: quartered shield of royal arms, surmounted by a crown and surrounded by a garter, bearing the motto of the order of the garter: ' HONI SOIT · QVI MAL · Y PENSE ·'. Beaded circle behind. Legend: 'FID: DEF: IND: IMP:' with 'HALFCROWN' and date ('1904') below, both divided by the buckle of the garter. This design also attributed to De Saulles and used on all Edward VII Halfcrowns struck from his coronation year (1902) until the King's death in 1910. Annual mintage: 709,600 (low).
