Scarce, key date 1903 UK Halfcrowns, struck in the year that the Wright brothers made the first powered and controlled heavier-than-air flight.

In the same year, King Edward VII was proclaimed Emperor of India, and it is his portrait by George William de Saulles that is shown on the obverse, paired with a reverse by the same artist showing a crowned and quartered shield of royal arms, encircled by a decorative garter.
