Jubilee Head 1889 silver Halfcrown: ready to add to your collection. 1889 saw the opening of the Eiffel Tower in Paris as part of the Exposition Universelle. In the same year, Nintendo was founded in Japan, and Coca-Cola was incorporated in the United States. In London, the Royal Mint struck 4,811,954 Halfcrowns in 1889, all featuring the so-called Jubilee Head portrait of Queen Victoria, introduced in 1887 and designed by Joseph Edgar Boehm. The reverse of these coins features a crowned shield of royal arms, positioned on a garter and collar bearing the Great George pendant. This design, created by Leonard Charles Wyon, was only used on UK Halfcrowns for six years and looks very attractive in hand.
