Buy a 1889 Florin

British silver Florin, struck in 1889 with the so-called Jubilee Head portrait of Queen Victoria on the obverse by Joseph Edgar Boehm.

The Jubilee Head effigy was only used on UK coins issued between 1887 and 1892, making the short series highly collectable. The portrait is paired with a reverse showing crowned cruciform shields with sceptres in the angles and a garter star in the centre by Leonard Charles Wyon.

  • In 1889, the Royal Mint struck 2,973,561 Florins for circulation from their Tower Hill premises
  • These silver coins were minted in the year the Eiffel Tower was opened, and Charlie Chaplin was born
