Collectible mint state 1889 silver Crown. Obverse: ‘Jubilee Head’ portrait of the Queen by Joseph Edgar Boehm, introduced in this year. His initials - ‘J.E.B.’ can be seen on the truncation of Victoria’s shoulder which is clothed in an elaborate dress. She wears lots of jewels, a small crown and a long lace veil. The legend around reads: ‘VICTORIA D: G: BRITT: REG: F: D:’. The reverse features the figure of Saint George, England’s patron saint, mounted on a rearing horse in the act of slaying a cowering dragon with a sword. It’s a design that was created in 1817 for the first modern Sovereigns by the Italian artist Benedetto Pistrucci. The date - 1889 - appears below. This .925 sterling silver coin weighs 28.28 grams and has a diameter of 38.61 millimetres. The edge is milled. Grade: MS - Some attractive gold tone, particularly to the obverse, much lustre and reflection and minimal bag marks: a Mint State grade coin. Spink 3921.
