Buy a 1888 Halfcrown

Collectable 1888 Jubilee Head silver Halfcrown, struck by the Royal Mint at Tower Hill, London, late in the reign of Queen Victoria. 1,428,787 Halfcrowns were minted in this year, which saw a series of terrible murders in Whitechapel by a killer who became known as Jack the Ripper. This historic sterling silver coin is connected to a dark time in Victorian London and is a key addition to any Halfcrown collection. On the obverse is a controversial portrait of the Queen designed by Joseph Edgar Boehm, which shows Victoria wearing a small crown and a long mourning veil. This is paired with an intricately detailed reverse depicting a shield of royal arms, a garter and a collar. A fascinating issue.
