Buy a 1887 Halfcrown (Jubilee Head)

Jubilee Head silver Halfcrown, dated 1887. This year marked Queen Victorias Golden Jubilee. The 50th anniversary of her accession was celebrated across the British Empire. Coinciding with the occasion, the Royal Mint adopted a new coinage portrait, created by Joseph Edgar Boehm. The effigy was the first major update to Victorias coinage since her Coronation and shows the Queen wearing the Small Diamond Crown and a long lace mourning veil. At the same time, several reverse designs were changed, including the Halfcrown, with this 1887 coin displaying a shield and gate design by LC Wyon. Part of an annual mintage of 1,438,046 coins, this Halfcrown is a key addition to collectors of Victorian coinage.
