Extremely Fine silver Shilling of Queen Victoria, dated 1878. Obverse: features type A6 third ‘Young Head’ of the queen, facing left by William Wyon. No initials on the truncation of Victorias neck, hair bound back with two fillets. Legend reads: ‘VICTORIA DEI GRATIA BRITANNIAR: REG: F: D:’. Reverse: shows value in centre - ‘ONE SHILLING’ - with crown above inside wreath of laurel and oak leaves, tied at bottom above date: 1878. Artist: Jean Baptiste Merlen. Die number appears above date and below ribbon, in this case: 16. This coin is composed of 5.66 grams of sterling silver and has a diameter of 23.5 millimetres.
