Rare Victorian overdate silver Halfcrown in high grade. Obverse: type A4 Young Head portrait of Queen Victoria, facing left, hair pulled back by with a ribbon. No initials to truncation but engraving attributed to William Wyon. Legend reads 'VICTORIA DEI GRATIA'. Date below (1845) shows 5 over 3 - a known but rare error, clear when magnified. Beaded borders and milled edge. Reverse: crowned, square-topped shield of royal arms surrounded by wreath of laurel leaves, tied at the base with a ribbon. Small national flower emblems below. Legend: 'BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF:'. Engraver: Jean Baptiste Merlen. Annual mintage: 2,231,800, many fewer with this error. Weight: 14.12 grams. Diameter: 32.3 millimetres. Grade: GVF - bright, cleaned, some die cracks evident, hairlines under magnification but nothing major, otherwise very attractive. References: S 3888, Bull 2723.
