Buy a 1823 King George IV Silver Halfcrown Coin Benedetto Pistrucci Laureate Head

from
£165.00
A collectable high grade silver Halfcrown of king George the Fourth, dated 1823. The obverse by engraver Benedetto Pistrucci features the first laureate head of the king, facing left, the artist’s initials - ‘B.P.’ - below the truncation of the neck. The reverse shows a crowned shield of royal arms with the arms of the House of Hanover superimposed. This is enclosed within a garter which is itself circled by a ring of national flower emblems. Its the work of Jean Baptiste Merlen. George IV ruled from 1820 to his death in 1830 though he’d been his father’s regent for the better part of the 1810s. By the time this Halfcrown was issued the finely wrought but bulbous, thick-necked depiction of the king was probably fairly accurate. He was increasingly overweight and unwell. This superb example in high grade would make a good addition to any collection. Spink 3808.
