1703 Sixpence VIGO Anne Silver Coin

Collectable 1703 Queen Anne silver Sixpence coins, struck with the word 'VIGO' below the bust on the obverse.

These coins are said to have been minted from silver seized after the Battle of Vigo Bay on 23 October 1702: a significant Anglo-Dutch naval success during the War of the Spanish Succession. The inscription 'VIGO' was subsequently added to certain gold and silver issues, serving as a form of political propaganda.
