1607 James I Hammered Silver Sixpence MM Grapes Obverse

* Images are of the actual product not stock images

A collectable hammered silver Sixpence of King James the First, dated 1607. From the first Stuart monarch’s second coinage, issued between 1604 to 1619. Displays a ‘Grapes’ mint mark to both sides. This mint mark was only used for four months in 1607. The obverse features the fourth type bust, crowned and draped facing right with the roman numerals ‘VI’ to the left, indicating the value of six pence. The reverse shows a quartered square topped shield of arms with the date 1607 above, and has the ‘7’ appearing ‘lower’ which seems quite normal for this issue. This coin comes with an old B A Seaby envelope and ticket from the 1960’s price 45/-. An attractive early Stuart coin and a nice addition to any collection.
