A collectable coin of king Henry the Second of France, called a Douzain made from .292 silver known as Billon and worth 12 Deniers. Dated 1555. The obverse features a shield containing three fleur-de-lis with crowns and crescents to either side and a ‘D’ below. The crescents mean that this denomination is referred to as ‘Douzain aux croissants’. The reverse shows interlinked ‘C’s in a cross with lis terminals and Crowns and ‘H’s in the angles. Henry was the second son of Francis I. He came to the throne in 1547 and suffered an untimely death in 1559. Three of his children in turn succeeded him to the throne.

Grade

VF - A attractive blue grain tone and strong details for Billon silver, a few minor edge nicks otherwise around Very Fine.
