£295.00
A collectable hammered silver groat of king Henry the Seventh with a clear pansy mintmark, indicating that this coin was struck at the Tower mint of London between 1495 and 1498. The obverse shows the facing bust of the king, type IIIc, wearing a crown with two arcs. The legend around, translated, reads ‘I have God my helper’. The reverse shows a long cross with three pellets in each quarter of an inner circle. The middle ring identifies the city in which this coin was struck and the outer, translated, reads ‘Henry but the Grace of God, king of England and France’. In these years Henry had mostly concluded campaigning in France, preoccupied instead with attempted invasions led by the pretender, Perkin Warbeck. Spink 2199.
