1472-1473 Edward IV Hammered Silver Groat London Mint

1472-1473 Edward IV Hammered Silver Groat London Mint Obverse

* Images are of the actual product not stock images

A very collectable hammered silver Groat of king Edward the Fourth. Dates from the king’s second reign between 1471 and 1483, with a Small Annulet mint mark to both sides, narrowing down the date to 1472 or 1473 and telling us that it was struck at the Tower mint in London. The obverse features the crowned facing bust of Edward IV within a treasure of arches with trefoils on the cusps: known as type XIV. The reverse features the standard long cross with three pellets in each central quarter and the wording for the London Mint. This coin in a high grade, from a series of Groats with many classes and deviations, would make an excellent addition any hammered silver collection. Spink 2096, North 1631.
