£375.00
Graded PF 64 Cameo by NGC, this 1953 proof Crown celebrates the coronation of Her Majesty the Queen. Obverse: portrait of Elizabeth II, mounted on her horse, Winston, riding left by Edgar Fuller. She wears the uniform of the Colonel in Chief of the Grenadier Guards as used during the Trooping of the Colour. Crowned ‘EIIR’ monograms appear to either side of her horse. The denomination is displayed below as ‘FIVE SHILLINGS’ and separated from the legend by roses. The legend reads: ‘ELIZABETH · II · DEI · GRATIA · BRITT · OMN · REGINA · FIDEI · DEFENSOR’. Reverse: four shields of arms representing England (twice), Scotland and Ireland - the copyist arms of the United Kingdom. A crown appears in the centre and in the angles are national flower emblems: a rose, a shamrock, a leek and a thistle. The date appears at the bottom, divided by the leek as ’19 53’. These cupronickel coins were issued in a circulation and proof finish to celebrate the coronation of Her Majesty the Queen. She came to the throne in 1952 on the death of her father, George VI. Her coronation took place at Westminster Abbey the following year. Weight: 28.28 grams. Diameter: 38.61 millimetres. Finish: proof. Mintage: 40,000. Grade: PF 64 Ultra Cameo by the Numismatic Guaranty Company. Presented in its NGC holder. S 4136.
