2oz gold proof Mary Gillick Portraits of a Queen coin from The Royal Mint, exclusively available from The Britannia Coin Company. Mary Gillick's beloved laureate head of Elizabeth II was used on UK coins from 1953 to 1967 as the first official coin portrait of the Queen's reign. For this 2026 coin, Gillick's laureate effigy has been remastered by Royal Mint Chief Engraver Gordon Summers and set against a radial background which catches the light as the coin is turned. This is a feature that unites the five coins in the Portraits of a Queen collection, which was released to mark what would have been Her Majesty's 100th birthday. These 9999 gold proof two-ounce Mary Gillick coins are the largest gold coins in the series, and the rarest issue, with just 50 authorised for release worldwide.

Mary Gillick's Royal Portrait

The first portrait used on Queen Elizabeth II's coins was the work of Mary Gillick and depicts Her Majesty wearing a laurel wreath. This remastered coin is inscribed 'PORTRAIT OF A QUEEN 1953-1967' against a radial background.

King Charles III Obverse

Gillick's effigy is paired with sculptor Martin Jennings' definitive coinage portrait of King Charles III, who succeeded in 2022. The inscription reads 'CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 200 POUNDS · 2026 ·'.

Two Ounce 9999 Gold Proof

With a face value of Two Hundred Pounds, this UK coin is struck with an attractive proof finish in 62.42 grams of solid 99.99% (24-carat) fine gold or two troy ounces of solid precious metal, making it the largest gold coin in the range.

Limited Edition Of Just 50

Just 50 of these gold proof coins have been authorised for release worldwide in 2026. This edition is by far the lowest mintage issue in what has already proved to be a popular and in-demand release from the UK's national mint.

Britannia Coin Co Exclusive

These Mary Gillick coins are available exclusively from The Britannia Coin Company in new condition. You will receive your Portraits of a Queen 2oz in a premium presentation case from The Royal Mint with a certificate of authenticity.
