The future Queen Elizabeth II was born on 21 April 1926 as Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary of York. When her farther acceded the throne on the abdication of his older brother in 1936, she became first in line, eventually crowned herself in 1953. In 2021 Her Majesty reached a remarkable milestone, becoming the first British monarch to celebrate her ninety fifth birthday. Her long life and reign were celebrated across a range of Royal Mint coins in this year including with a special Sovereign design and a range of very large coinage. This impressive 2oz gold coin features a special design by veteran coinage artist Timothy Noad. It shows the royal ER cypher with a crown above on a spray of national flowers including a daffodil, a rose, clovers and thistles. The legend around reads ‘MY HEART AND MY DEVOTION’ referencing a promise the Queen made in her 1957 Christmas message. Her birth and birthday dates appear above. Noad’s design is paired with Jody Clark’s fifth definitive coinage effigy of Her Majesty to the obverse. This special edition coin is one of only 200 issued. It’s struck in 62.42 grams of 999.9 fine gold to a proof finish and has a diameter of 40.00 millimetres. The face value is £200 pounds. This example has been graded PF 70 Ultra Cameo by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation and comes in an NGC holder.
