2020 Second World War Five Pound Crown Gold Proof Coin

UK20EWGP 2020 End of the Second World War £5 Crown Gold Proof Reverse
(VAT Exempt)
Five Pound gold proof Royal Mint coin commemorating the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. In Europe, hostilities ceased in May 1945, the news resulting in widespread celebration across Allied nations. We remember this day as VE Day in the UK and mark the occasion on 7 May annually. The war in Asia would continue until the surrender of Japan on 2 September (VJ Day). This moving coin is from of a collection of UK coinage, created in collaboration with the Imperial War Museums. It features a minimal reverse design created by Matt Dent and Christian Davies with the words ‘WAR’ and ‘PEACE’ interlinked on a stone-effect background, reminiscent of a war memorial. The obverse shows Jody Clark’s portrait of Her Majesty the Queen, along with the face value of this piece: ‘5 POUNDS’. This end of WW2 coin is composed of 39.94 grams of 22 carat gold and has a diameter of 38.61 millimetres. It’s one of only 225 gold £5 coins issued in this presentation. The piece is offered in its original wooden gift box and packaging from The Royal Mint and comes with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
