This collectable Two Pound is the third in a series of coins issued to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Captain James Cook's first voyage aboard HMS Endeavour. The expedition, funded by the Royal Navy and the Royal Society, departed from Plymouth in 1768 with the aim of observing 1769 Transit of Venus from Tahiti and seeking an as-yet undiscovered southern continent. In 1770 Cook's crew would become the first Europeans to reach Australia. 250 years on, this Royal Mint coin celebrates this remarkable achievement with a new design by Gary Breeze, showing a Maori canoe and a map with the coast of New Zealand and Botany Bay. This pre-owend 22-carat gold coin comes in its original presentation case with a numbered certificate of authenticity, confirming that its one of just 340 coins issued in this limited presentation.
