2020 three Sovereign set, including a ‘full’ Sovereign, a Half Sovereign and a Quarter Sovereign. The obverse of each coin features a portrait of Her Majesty the Queen by Jody Clark, in use on British money since 2015. This is paired with the classic Saint George and the Dragon reverse, designed by Benedetto Pistrucci for the first modern Sovereigns. For this year only, a tiny mint mark has been added to the left of the date on the reverse. It marks 200 years since the end of the reign of George III. He was on the throne when the specification of the modern Sovereign was established. The mint mark is a cypher which sits opposite Pistrucci’s initials on all three of these proof coins. Each piece is struck to long standing specifications in 22 carat gold. The total weight of the coins in the set is 13.96 grams, equating to 12.80 grams of fine gold across the three pieces. They are all finished to a superior proof standard with multiple strikes of hand-finished dies. Only 750 of these three coin sets were offered by The Royal Mint in 2020 making them sought-after today. You’ll receive your 2020 proof set in its original packaging which comprises of a presentation box in which the coins are sealed in individual capsules, a card gift box and an information booklet. A certificate of authenticity is also included.

Three coin 2020 Sovereign set with a special mint mark to honour George III.
George III's Royal Cypher
The very first gold Sovereigns were struck in the 1400s by the Tudor kings and their prestigious legacy was reclaimed when the modern Sovereign was introduced in 1817. George III was on the British throne at the time and its his legacy that’s celebrated on the 2020 Sovereign, 200 years after the end of his reign.
For this year only, The Royal Mint authorised a special cypher mint mark to be included on the reverse of their proof Sovereigns. A cypher combines the initials of a monarch with their title. In this case, Kerry Davies’ design includes an 'R' for 'Rex' and a 'G' for 'George'.
It's a subtle motif that sits next to the date on the reverse of these coins, speaking to their long history. The 'full' Sovereign and the Half Sovereign have been minted to the same specification since George's reign so it's appropriate to mark this significant anniversary.
Three 2020 Gold Sovereigns
This presentation set includes a a 'full' Sovereign, a Half Sovereign and a Quarter Sovereign, all dated 2020. In total the three 22 carat coins offer 12.80 grams of fine gold.
This 2020 set comes from a limited presentation of just 750.
Each coin shows Jody Clark's portrait of Her Majesty the Queen to the obverse, in use on British money since 2015. The reverse features Benedetto Pistrucci's classic Saint George and the dragon design. His depiction of England's patron saint shows him in the act of slaying the prone beast, crushed beneath his horses hooves. The royal cypher appears to the left of the date, opposite Pistrucci’s initials.

Your 2020 Sovereigns come in their original packaging from The Royal Mint. Each coin is sealed within its capsule, inside an attractive presentation case, complete with a detailed information booklet and a numbered certificate of authenticity.
All Sovereigns, including those in this set are exempt from Capital Gains Tax as UK legal tender and free from VAT in the UK and EU as investment grade gold.
We also offer individual 2020 proof 'full' Sovereigns (7,995 issued in this presentation). 2020 Sovereigns are also available in a bullion finish though these do not feature the George III privy mark. Very easy to use website I think you enter the website and there's the latest "live metal prices" with an "Enter Search Item" bar at the top of the page. I like the fact it has the search feature as the home page. When you search for the item(s) it quickly shows the results, along with images of the coins or coin sets. I like that, too. The only downside with these types of businesses, is that you can't get to see a close up image of the coin and/or coin set you are buying. I feel that, because this company buys coins from collectors, etc. that they will have several items that are the same, but in varying degrees of quality and condition, and then, when your buying a 2nd hand item, it's going to be a case of pot luck on what you're going to get. And so, if it was possible, I'd love for BCC to get images of each item that you're going to buy. This is so you know what you're getting before you buy it. That said, every item I've bought from BCC has been of a very nice quality. Two of the coins were of a staggering high quality and the two sets I bought were much better than the average coin sets from eBay. I would say that BCC are the best company in the UK when it comes to used and brand new coins and coin sets. Not only that, the speed at which they get your order processed and delivered to your door is very very fast. The packaging is also on point and highly professional. Also, and one of the most important things, I really trust the Britannia Coin Company. Their prices are very fair and their items are clean and in good condition. They also have a good standing within the coin community.
